Icebergs are called "Ilulissat" in Greenlandic, and it should come as no surprise the word is also a fitting name for this town. Ilulissat is beautifully situated at the mouth of the 40-kilometre ice fjord filled with enormous icebergs formed by the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere - Sermeq Kujalleq. It's one of few glaciers within the Greenland ice cap which reaches the sea. Ilulissat is located on the west coast of Greenland, 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. 4,000 people live in Ilulissat and not less than 6,000 sled dogs. This is an eloquent statement of the importance of the dogsled as a means of transport, even in a large modern town.
